“Desire and the City” starring Angelababy and Wu Xiubo
After much controversy, modern drama “Desire and the City” starring “Angelababy” and “Wu Xiubo” has started filming. The 50 episode modern drama originally had “Tiffany Tang” and “Chen Daoming” linked as the leads. After “Angelababy” replaced “Tiffany Tang,” rumor has it “Chen Daoming” withdrew from the drama because he didn’t want to work with “Angelababy.” Besides the fact she has a reputation of having little endurance during filming causing havoc to an entire set she’s also not a strong actress. Despite having worked in the film industry for over a decade, she continues to draw criticism for her work ethics and stiff acting. This was especially the case in her latest drama “General and I” where many blamed her for dragging the whole quality of the production down with her.
Though she started acting in films since 2006, she’s only been in two tv dramas so far, “General and I” and “Love Yunge from the Desert” if that gives her an excuse that she still has a chance for improvement. She’s still honing her skills as an actress. I think she gets a lot more flak than she deserves. To each his own, I enjoy seeing her in leading roles.
“Desire and the City,” will have 28 year old Angelababy pairing up with 49 year old veteran actor Wu Xiubo. Although sometimes age is just a number, in this case Wu Xiubo looks like Angelababy’s father. Perhaps this is suppose to be fitting to the story.
Wu Xuibo will play “Jiang Nianhua” a successful business man and divorcee. Although, financially successful he’s not immune to depression. The higher he climbs up the corporate ladder, the colder it gets. He considers taking his life until he meets “Lin Li” played by Angelababy. “Lin Li” has her own love woes just having broken up permanently with her on and off again boyfriend. “Jiang Nianhua” and “Lin Li” support each emotionally as they heal together.
This drama will likely air late next year. We’ll get to see if Angelababy improves in this drama.
