Review: Because of Meeting You
“Because of Meeting You” is based off of the Korean drama “Jang Bori is Here”. I don’t think I have seen the Korean version but I heard that the Chinese version is so much better.
Synopsis: The focal point of this drama is on embroidery and two sister trying to compete to be the Master Embroideress of the Golden Embroidery House. One does everything in her power to become success no matter the unethical thing she has to do. Whilst one lead an honest life trying to succeed through her talents.
Guo Guo (Sun Yi) is the real granddaughter of the Master of Embroideress who has lost her memory after a car accident cause by her mother. She was lost on that day and no one was able to find her since then. Guo Guo was found by Yu Xin’s (Wu You) mom who raised her as a daughter in a wonton shop.
Through a competition, Yu Xin stole Guo Guo’s drawing and captivated Guo Guo’s mother, who then took Yu Xin under her wings.
Story wise: I’m not really going to focus on them competing for the embroidery but more of a characteristic view. There is a total of 56 episodes.
The character Guo Guo makes me angry a lot. She is nice, too naive and just plain forgiving to anyone who treats her like crap, from her mom who raise her up, her sister, her friend and then her real mom. The mom that raised her up would not allowed her to do anything that Yu Xin asked. The mom would burn her embroidery and not allow her to do anything if it means it will make her own daughter success. Her real daughter doesn’t even acknowledge her as a real mother. Makes me angry because even if she is your biological daughter doesn’t mean you to have to turn a blind eyes and let her do whatever she wants. You have a nice and capable daughter who thinks she is YOUR real daughter.
Guo Guo forgives everyone. There were only sometimes when she shows some feisty then would turn weak. She is your typical Thai lakorn nang’ek. Yet, the main guy Li Yun Kai (Deng Lun) treats her decent and helped her when she is in need. She question his every step and takes her like 25 episodes or so to think he is a decent human being. The tragedy of all. lol
Yu Xi… gosh. There has never been a more selfish and shameless character in all television drama. Everything is all about her. She cheat, she steals. She does just about everything unethical and would blame Guo Guo for her downfall. If Guo Guo is competing with her, she can’t bear it because she might lose. So mommy will have to help her get Guo Guo off the competition or sabotage the competition so she can come out the winner. When watching this series, I don’t blame you if your blood pressure rise to 120. That’s how much I want to smack this girl.
Three people that you want to enter the screen and scream or slap them so hard they never knew what hit them is Yu Xin, the foster mother and the real mother. The real mother is just despicable throughout the whole drama. When you think she is going to redeem herself, she make another lies upon lies. Both of the mother will just disappoint you till the end.
Another character I really like is Xu Hui Jie, who plays the main guy’s auntie. She plays one of the consort in Nirvana in Fire as Prince Jing’s mother. Really soft spoken and graceful.
Romance wise: The only thing will keep you going is the romance. They are super cute and cheesy. If you can get through ungrateful Guo Guo in the beginning towards Li Yun Kai, then they will be a cute couple. No matter how many times he helped her, she will never say Thank you Li Yun Kai! She would just scoff at him or just yell at him afterward.
After they got married, the guy is super whipped. But he was a good boyfriend and husband to her. That is what this girl really need. He stood up for her even to his dad. He is a pretty funny guy with his funny family members.
Some of the negatives about these two main leads though is their teeth. I know it’s superficial but I can’t stand watching people in HD and see their yellow teeth. At least get it bleach, eh?
If you do like the classic Thai lakorn of innocent nang’ek who forgives everyone mistreating her, this Chinese series has the ingredient for it. Torture yourself through the selfishness of people that she calls family.
Even though there are many people in here that I want to smack, the quality of the cinematography and the romance of the leads, I think, is good enough to put yourself through the torture.
